World Languages

The World Languages Department aims to provide students in grades 7-12 with 21st century skills that will support students' cultural fluency and help them to acquire language skills that foster global citizenship.  Longwood's programs and courses promote the integration of interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational skills through relevant and authentic learning.  Student-centered learning experiences support students in achieving competencies in another language, while also allowing students to gain insight and appreciation for other cultures.  Students learn to explore languages and culture through many lenses such as art, history, literature, food and music.  Our courses and programs use authentic materials and visuals in order to bring real-world experiences to the classroom. Through the study of another language and culture, students are afforded the opportunity to learn more about themselves and the communities in which they live. Longwood Central School District offers Spanish, French and Italian courses for the beginner through the Advanced Placement level.  All students are encouraged to earn the New York State Seal of Biliteracy and many of our courses are approved for college credit*.
