Music and Fine Arts

Fine Arts Department Program Overview

The goal of the Longwood Central School District’s Music & Fine Arts Department is to create well-rounded students by offering opportunities in several curricular content areas, including Visual Art, Media Art, General/Classroom, and Performing Music. We also offer extra-curricular theater content in grades 4-12.

Our art educators provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be productive citizens by helping them develop self-esteem, self-discipline, and cognitive, creative, emotional, and social skills by actively participating in the arts.

Longwood’s Music program is one of the best in the state and nation having been recognized with the Award of Excellence from the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), designated as a Best Community for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation each year since 2008, and is a two-time recipient of the Elementary Music Program of Excellence Award by the Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA).

Our musical, visual, and media arts students have been recognized as Scholar Artists by the Long Island Arts Alliance. On several occasions, our students have had their artwork on display in the United States Capitol as part of the Congressional Art Competition and at other venues, including The Longhouse Reserve and the Heckscher Museum.
