Middle Island

Walter Zebrowski was
born in Middle Island about 1925. He was the son of Anthony and
Leona Zebrowski whose home in 1930 was on the south side of Middle
Country Road where Longwood Public Library is located. He attended
East Middle Island School. Walter entered the Navy in 1943 and
went from enlisted man to officer by becoming a pilot. He was
attached to several carriers over his 31 year career including the
USS Saratoga and the USS Enterprise, where he was the Operations
Officer in charge of all jet squadrons. Walter had more than 600
carrier landings to his credit and retired as a Captain. He is
buried on a hilltop that overlooks the Pacific Ocean in Ft.
Rosecrans National Cemetery in California.
