Vincent Mirando was born in Brooklyn, New
York on June 12th 1924. He is the son of John and Jennie
(Giordano) Mirando. Before enlisting he lived in Middle Island. He
enlisted in the Army on February 12, 1943 leaving from Patchogue and
was assigned to the 351st Infantry as a private at Fort
Jackson, South Carolina. As part of the 351st Infantry he
departed for Europe on the Queen Mary arriving in England. His unit
saw action in the battles and campaigns in the North Appennine and
Po Valley. Upon completion of his tour of duty he was discharged
from Camp Atterbury, Indiana on November 22, 1945.
Vincent Mirando was awarded the American
Theater Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon ,
the Good Conduct Ribbon and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars
and the WWII Victory Medal.
