Myrton Kinney was the
son of Myrton and Flora Kinney. He was born Oct. 23, 1923 and was
inducted March 10, 1943 in the Army Air Corps at Camp Upton, NY.
He was sent to Florida for training and then to armament school at
Santa Anita, Calif. After training as a bomb specialist he was sent
to England and attached to the 8th Air Force where he worked on
weapons for the B-17 and B-24 bombers. His group was awarded
nine battle stars. At the conclusion of the war
in Europe he was sent to Sioux Falls, SD where he began training on
B-29s. He was separated from the Army at Amarillo, Texas on
October 24, 1945 and returned home to Yaphank. Myrton has served in
the Yaphank FD as a volunteer for 70 years.
