Walter Gordon

Walter Gordon was born on August 17, 1925 at Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Anna (Egenberger) and Anthony Gordon. Before the war, he was living in Yaphank and was employed as a carpenter. He was inducted into the Army on June 26th, 1944 at Camp Upton, New York. He was assigned to Company L, 319th Infantry, 80th Division. Gordon left the United States on May 13, 1944 from Camp Miles Standish aboard the USS Mt. Vernon arriving in England. He was involved in engagements at the Rhineland and the Ardennes. Gordon was awarded the European – African - Middle Eastern Service Medal, Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster, and Combat Infantry Badge. Gordon was hospitalized in France and Germany, and was then shipped to a hospital in England. He was discharged from the Army on June 30, 1945 at Camp Upton, New York.
