Bruno Borella was born in Coram on April
18, 1923. He was the son of John and Dolinda Borella, who
were both born in Italy.
Mr. Borella attended school at the one
room schoolhouse at Coram for 8 years, and finished his
high school education at Port Jefferson High School.
Mr.Borella was inducted into the Army on
January 13, 1943 at NYC. He was a Pfc. with the 1774th
aviation engineers battalion for 8 months. He was
promoted to Corporal on October 12, 1944, while serving
with the Base Unit, at Moses Lake, Washington for 14
months. It was here that he married his wife Rosemary on
September 23, 1944. He was finally promoted to Sgt. while
serving with the 516th Air Service Group.
Mr. Borella left the United States on
Dec. 10, 1944 on the SS. Argentine, for Italy. On May 23,
1945 he boarded the SS. Richardson and left Italy for
Trinidad. On March 19, 1946 he arrived at West Palm
airport in Florida, on an Army C-54 transport, and was
discharged eight days later at Fort Dix.
While in the service Sgt. Borella took
part in the European Theatre of Operation from Dec. 1944
- May 1945.
