Congratulations to the fivestudent-athletes who recently signed their National Letter of Intent to continue their athletic careers in college.

Under the guidance of teachers Mrs. MacKenzie, Mrs. O’Connor, and Mrs. Thomas, fifth-grade students collected nearly 250 pounds of Halloween candy, as well as new toiletries and snacks, which were organized into 60 festive holiday stockings to be distributed to our local veterans through Stockings for Soldiers.

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is administering a digital equity survey that will provide information on student access to devices and the internet in their places of residence.

Before the start of the November 9 meeting, the Board of Education and Central Administration recognized and celebrated 30 newly-tenured administrators and teachers. 

Congratulations to senior Eva Zheberlyaeva for being selected as a Semifinalist in the 2024 Coca-Cola Scholars Program.

Third and fourth-grade students at Ridge Elementary School participated in a special event to increase their knowledge about disabilities and foster positive attitudes about people who are different. As part of Differently-Abled Assembly Day, students learned about visual, physical, and hearing impairments, learning disabilities, autism, and ADHD.

Congratulations to seniors Bergre Escorbores and Mya Faraone for being named Commended Students in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Once again, the Late Afternoon Program (LAP) at the high school hosted Safe Halloween, transforming hallways into a fun, interactive Halloween adventure for children in our community.

Longwood Middle School is pleased to announce the success of a recent science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) event in collaboration with BASF Corporation, where fifth-grade students participated in exciting laboratory activities designed to ignite their passion for STEAM and STEAM-related careers.

Longwood High School is pleased to share that senior Gregory Cohen has been named a semifinalist for the 2024 National Merit Scholarship program.

As part of the Longwood High School Seal of Civic Readiness Program and College and Career Pathways, local representatives from civics and all levels of government visited with students to share the importance of community engagement as well as provide valuable information on future career opportunities.

At today's Suffolk County Legislative meeting, Ridge Elementary School fourth-grader Juliana Gianmugnai was recognized for being named the June 2023 first-place winner not only at the Brookhaven National Laboratory Elementary Science Fair but also at the New York State Science Fair for her experiment, Which One is the Best Filter Feeder: Oysters or Clams?

The Longwood Central School District is pleased to announce two administrative appointments, Katherine Saint Louis, Assistant Principal at Longwood High School, and Shemaiah Villani-Lowe, Coordinator of Special Education for Pre K-6.

Longwood High School is pleased to share that senior Gregory Cohen earned a perfect score on a college-level Advanced Placement® (AP) Computer Science Principles Exam from May 2023.

The International Day of Peace was recognized on September 23, with elementary students participating in community-building activities, decorating peace rocks and doves, forming peace signs, and sharing poems focused on kindness, compassion, and the meaning of peace. 
 

Twenty-four Longwood High School students have been selected College Board National Recognition Program awardees. College Board is a nonprofit organization that expands access to higher education by connecting students to college readiness programs.

Congratulations to the Class of 2023 Longwood Athletics Hall of Fame inductees! On Saturday, September 23, we were proud to honor these individuals who have significantly contributed to Longwood's athletic history.

The Longwood Board of Education is seeking members of the community to participate on school board and district committees for the 2023-2024 school year.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lohman recently spoke at a press conference as part of a school bus safety initiative, reminding motorists to take extra precautions as they begin sharing the roads with school buses. 

On Friday, September 1, the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lohman, central office, administrators, faculty, and staff gathered for Superintendent's Conference Day to celebrate the start of an exciting school year, recognize milestones, and learn about the goals and vision for the year ahead. 

The 2023-2024 Back to School edition of Longwood Life is now available!  

On Tuesday, August 22, Longwood High School celebrated 18 students who completed the requirements to earn their high school diplomas, joining their classmates from the Class of 2023 as the newest Longwood alumni. 
 

We're pleased to share that the 2023-2024 Longwood Central School District Calendar and Parent Guide is now available online, with printed copies arriving in mailboxes the week of Monday, August 21, 2023.

The Longwood Board of Education recently held its annual reorganization meeting, where newly elected members and the slate of officers and administrators were administered the Oath of Office.  

As per Commissioner Regulation Part 155.17, school districts are required to develop districtwide school safety plans in alignment with building-level emergency response plans.  A Districtwide School Safety Team has been appointed and charged with plan development.

The Longwood High School Class of 2023 was conferred as the 60th graduating class on Friday, June 23, in an outdoor evening ceremony, with 700 graduates receiving their diplomas and celebrating their milestones and achievements with family and friends.

Congratulations to our senior athlete graduates that have committed to continue their athletic careers at their respective colleges and universities.  

Earlier this spring, the athletic department hosted a spring signing day ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of our student-athletes!

Ridge Elementary School third-grade student Juliana earned first place at the Brookhaven National Laboratory Elementary Science Fair for her experiment, Who is the Better Filter Feeders: Oysters or Clams?

West Middle Island Elementary School is giving back, with students collecting hundreds of toiletry items including shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and soap to donate to Branches Long Island as part of their school-wide "Week of Giving." 

While every student's graduation is unique, Longwood High School senior Bryan Diaz now holds the notable designation as the first student in Longwood history and one of the select few of the State University of New York (SUNY) system to earn his associate degree before graduating high school!

Longwood Central School District proudly announces this year’s valedictorian and salutatorian for the Longwood High School Class of 2023, Ryan Styron and Michael Ho.

The Junior High School hosted Career Awareness Day, providing opportunities for our students to learn about various potential career paths.

Twelve Longwood High School students recently attended a Manufacturing Day career exploration event to learn about manufacturing, chemistry, and microbiology opportunities. 

Students K-12 and teachers presented and demonstrated more than 80 interactive instructional technologies, including coding, FIRST LEGO initiatives focused on alternative energy, Esports, Book Creator, the new STEAM lab, college and career-based technology pathways in networking, automotive mechanics, drones, competition-level high school robotics, and more!

After more than a decade of advocating for equitable funding, we are pleased that New York State is fulfilling the promise to fully fund the Foundation Aid formula enabling the District to offer the second-lowest levy increase to our community in more than a decade, less than one percent.
 

Congratulations to the Longwood High School FBLA Chapter for another outstanding competition at the New York State Leadership Conference and Competition in Rochester, NY.

Longwood High School senior Grace Sutherland was recently honored by Suffolk County Police Department Commissioner Rodney Harrison.

Join us for an evening of technology on Tuesday, April 25 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at Longwood Middle School, where our students and teachers will highlight the new and exciting instructional technologies being implemented throughout the District.

We are excited to announce that starting today, parents and guardians can utilize the new WheresTheBus application to securely track the arrival of their child's bus. This new app provides an enhanced and convenient school bus experience that delivers real-time tracking of bus locations via email and push notification alerts to assist our families in best managing their daily school bus experience.

This year's LEGO Showcase challenged student engineers throughout the District to work in teams to address the need for sustainable energy sources, storage systems, and efficiency.

Three Longwood High School teachers, Ms. Guisti, Mr. Tapia, and Mr. Ross (not in photo), have been recognized by the Harvard Club of Long Island for their contributions to our students, schools, and community.

Close to 200 Longwood High School students recently participated in the Second Annual Hack-a-Thon!

Congratulations to the varsity girls and boys' bowling teams for sweeping the Section XI County Championships recently, marking back-to-back County Championships for the girls' bowling program since winning their first county title in 1989.

In celebration of Black History Month, the Junior High School established a Gallery Walk, highlighting the achievements of African Americans and Afro-Latinos.

This past Saturday, we were proud to welcome close to 400 public education leaders, representing almost three-quarters of the school districts from Suffolk County, to advocate for our students, schools, and communities at the Longwood Legislative Breakfast.

Two of our District's Instructional Coaches for Technology, Ms. Brandi and Ms. Walczk, were recently chosen to present at the National Future of Educational Technology Conference in New Orleans.

Senior Wallace Wilson was named the winner of the New York State High School Football Coaches Association (NYSHSFCA) 12th Man Award!

As participants arrived at the Coram Firehouse for last weekend's Unity Walk, they were greeted by a beautiful, oversized mural created by our students.

In honor and observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the District's Community Connections Committee hosted a Unity Walk on Saturday, January 14, focusing on service learning, civil rights, and solidarity!

This past weekend, the Longwood Central School District's award-winning music department received the prestigious 2022 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Award of Excellence.

Longwood Board of Education Vice President Victoria Molloy was recently honored by New York State Assemblyman Joe DeStefano as a Woman of Distinction for her outstanding service to the Longwood community and the Third Assembly District.
