Save the Date for an Internet Safety, Social Networking, Cyberbullying Community Forum and Pasta Dinner

Guest Speaker Police Officer Kayla Mueger of the Suffolk County Police Department, Community Relations Bureau, will discuss today's technological world, including challenges students can experience involving social networking sites, cell phones, and other forms of technology.

Two Seniors Selected to All-National Musical Ensembles

Longwood High School seniors Michael Gallagher, bassoon, and Michael Varacchi, saxophone, have been selected to perform alongside top-performing high school musicians across the nation in the 2022 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-National Concert Band. The students are among only 41 selected from New York State and only 12 from Suffolk County.

Longwood High School Student Awarded Rensselaer Medal

Last June, Longwood High School student Angad Bindra was awarded the Rensselaer Medal for Excellence in Science and Mathematics. 

For more than 90 years, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in conjunction with high schools around the world, has awarded the Rensselaer Medal and scholarship to promising high school juniors who represent the next generation of leaders, scientists, innovators, artists, scholars, game designers, architects, humanitarians, and entrepreneurs.

Longwood Junior High School  Designated as an Essential Elements School to Watch

The New York State Education Department, in partnership with the New York State Middle School Association and the Statewide Network of Middle-Level Liaisons, named Longwood Junior High School as one of 16 statewide Essential Elements: Schools to Watch. The Junior High School previously received the honor in 2012, 2016, and 2018.

Sam Ahmed, Ed.D. Named Principal of Longwood High School

The Longwood Central School District is pleased to share that Sam Ahmed, Ed.D. has been appointed as the next principal of Longwood High School. 

Dr. Ahmed has been serving the Longwood School community, as a valued member of the District’s leadership team, since 2016, when he was appointed assistant principal at Longwood High School. Most recently, Dr. Ahmed has been serving as the Director of Special Programs and Data Reporting.

Scott Schuster Appointed Director of College and Career Pathways

The Longwood Board of Education has appointed Scott Schuster as the District’s Director of College and Career Pathways, effective July 1, 2022. Since 2015, Mr. Schuster has served as the principal of Longwood High School.

In his new role, Mr. Schuster will advance community and business partnerships that support and improve student outcomes, seek out new grant opportunities, collaborate with leadership teams, and expand career pathways for immediate and future workforce needs.

Senior Named First Place Winner in Congressional Art Competition

Senior Shelby Spillet was recently named the 2022 winner of the Congressional Art Competition for the First Congressional District.  

Shelby's oil pastel drawing, By the Seaside, will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year. In addition, Shelby has been invited to Washington, DC, to attend a reception for this year's first-place winners from each congressional district throughout the country.
