Longwood's "Shining Stars" Honored by SCOPE Education Services
The Longwood Central School District Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lohman, and Central Administration recently recognized three members of its school community at the SCOPE 21st Annual “Shining Above the Rest" Awards Dinner for outstanding service to education and the school district community.
About Longwood's Shining Stars
Administrator Service Award- Janet Bryan, Assistant Superintendent of Business
Mrs. Bryan began her career at the Longwood Central School District in 2006 as an Assistant Superintendent of District Operations. She is a highly dedicated and intelligent individual who has made it her mission to serve the students and staff at Longwood Schools. She remains mindful of taxpayer concerns while being committed to maintaining educational excellence for our students. She has led the district through numerous capital campaign projects throughout her tenure and works diligently to keep the district at an AA++ credit rating. As the district’s Budget Committee leader, Mrs. Bryan works with key leaders in the community to ensure all aspects of the annual budget process are communicated and understood. She monitors economic growth in the community and works closely with the Longwood Board of Education to project potential budget issues. In addition to her position at Longwood, she is a member of the Association of School Business Officials and served as the Suffolk County Chapter president from 2015 to 2016.
Support Staff Award - Pamela Donovan, Public Relations Specialist
During her 7-years in the Longwood Central School District, Public Relations Specialist Pam Donovan has dedicated herself as a true champion for our students, staff, and families. Mrs. Donovan continuously brings new and innovative ideas to the district that consistently enhance our community outreach and strengthen our school-community partnerships. She is the bridge that connects the district and community, working tirelessly to ensure that the community is immersed in every aspect of our district. In addition, to coordinating and highlighting countless events and initiatives districtwide, she is the driving force behind Longwood’s partnership with Eastern Suffolk BOCES and Suffolk Region PTA in providing the opportunity each year for an open dialogue between state and federal representatives and school leaders at the annual Regional Legislative Workshop. Mrs. Donovan is a true professional and an absolute model of what it means to embody Longwood Pride, Spirit, and Heart.
Teacher Service Award - Daniel Tapia, Longwood High School
Since joining the Longwood School community in 1996, Dan Tapia has provided innovative and enriching programs for the students of Longwood High School. He is a role model among his peers and is one of the district’s most extraordinary educators. As a Department Chairperson for Social Studies, AP Pre-World Teacher, Late Afternoon Program (LAP) Assistant Facilitator, and Academies of Longwood Liaison, Mr. Tapia is an outstanding member of the high school that continues to connect with his students both in and out of the classroom. He remains a leader in the growth and development of the high school’s career academies and the continued development of the school and business partnerships leading to work-study programs, internships, and job placement for students. Outside of school, Mr. Tapia continues his support of students by providing college and career counseling and supports students that wish to pursue a military pathways post-graduation. He is a shining example of an outstanding educator to be emulated daily and someone who can ensure that the needs of his students are represented.
