"Shining Stars" Honored by SCOPE Education Services
Two members of the Longwood School community were selected as "Shining Stars" at the 22nd Annual SCOPE Education Services School District Awards dinner held on May 22, which honors employees for outstanding service to education and the school district community.

- Teacher Service Award - Deborah Lang, Longwood Junior High School Technology Teacher
- Support Staff Award - Elrich Bowlay-Williams, Longwood High School Teaching Assistant
Congratulations to our SCOPE Award recipients, and thank you for your service to the Longwood Central School District!
Deborah Lang has served as a Junior High School technology teacher for more than 30 years. She plays a vital role in creating opportunities for students to learn and expand their knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. She volunteers countless hours on STEM-related committees, including School-Business Partnerships of Long Island and FIRST Lego League, to name a few.
In 2001, Deb founded Robotics Team #564, with numerous teams established since. She also launched a Junior Lego League for elementary students, and the program continues to expand.
She is exceptional and selfless and had a tremendous impact on thousands of students and community members. She has a gift that one could only hope to possess, which shows in the respect and admiration she receives daily from her students.
Dedicated, committed, and humble are just a few words used to describe Longwood High School teaching assistant and varsity wrestling coach, Elrich Bowlay-Williams.
Elrich, a Class of 1993 graduate and former star football player, has committed himself to mentorship and helping those in need. Since 2020, Elrich has served as the manager of My Brother’s Keeper, a program supporting students in reaching their full potential. Through his leadership, the program continues to expand and grow to record numbers of students.
He has always possessed a genuine love for the community and seeks partnerships for the betterment of our students and our schools. He is one of the shining stars of the Longwood Schools, a valued member of the community, and has always done what’s right for children.
