Longwood High School Teacher Named “Above and BEEyond” Teacher Award Winner
Longwood High School French teacher and National Foreign Language Honor Society Advisor Maria Portal has been selected as a recipient of the “Above and BEEyond Teacher” award, sponsored by Applebee’s. Madam Portal is one of only two outstanding educators in Suffolk County to be honored with this recognition, which includes a classroom sponsorship and a celebratory end-of-year party.
Nominated by senior Michaela Reis, Madame Portal was recognized for her unwavering positivity, deep appreciation for language and culture, consistent support and guidance for students, and for creating a lasting impact on her students.
"I am better for having had the opportunity to be in three of Madam Portal’s French classes and gaining knowledge about the world around us,” shared Michaela. “It’s rare to find a teacher who truly inspires you, and even rarer to spend three years in their classroom. As I graduate this June, I will carry the memories and lessons she’s given me close to my heart.”
