Local Leaders Share the Importance of Civic Engagement with High School Students
As part of the Longwood High School Seal of Civic Readiness Program and College and Career Pathways, local representatives from all levels of government visited with students to share the importance of civic engagement and future career opportunities within our community.
Coordinated by the Social Studies Department and the Board of Education Legislative Committee, students met with local leaders and representatives to hear personal stories, discuss various roles in government, and how they can become more active within their community and beyond.
More than 1,200 students, in 45 of our Social Studies classes, participated in active Q&A discussions addressing the many obstacles, challenges, and opportunities that have led many local officials to serve our community and State. Additionally, Seal of Civic students served as greeters and personal guides for guests.
"We are so proud and appreciate the opportunity to offer our students these valuable opportunities to engage with and learn from our local leaders and officials, gaining insight into their dedication and service to our community and beyond,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lance Lohman. “Legislator’s Day exemplifies how empowering it can be for our students to learn from our local leaders and understand the importance of building stronger communities through public service and civic-minded action.”
Special thank you to Senators Dean Murray and Anthony H. Palumbo; Assemblyman Joe P.
