High School Students Complete HOPE Program

On Tuesday, May 10, 12 Longwood High School students graduated from Stony Brook's innovative Health Occupations Partnership for Excellence (HOPE) Program.

Under the mentorship of Stony Brook University faculty, the program fosters the academic development of juniors and seniors to prepare them for future careers in the health industry.

Congratulations to juniors Courtney Bock, Cole Elliott, Grace Sutherland, Audrey Taylor, and seniors Samantha Baker, Angelina Brown, Danyela Celan, Joshua Garcia, Ryan Marquez, Meagan Roderick, Isabelle Valot, and Mia Wattley.

Throughout the two-year program, students experience a variety of health care professions through educational modules that expose them to classroom lectures and hands-on learning experiences, including introduction to suturing, Biomedical Engineering, and the construction of a mock prosthetic hand.

Activities provide educational support, mentorship, and volunteer opportunities, culminating in the student selecting a mentor in the department of their choice.
