Circulating Social Media Post - An Important Message from Dr. Lohman
School districts across Long Island have been made aware of a social media post that has been circulating across the entire nation over the past few days that references a school threat and the pulling of a fire alarm. Our local law enforcement agencies have been actively tracking this nationwide post, which continues to be re-shared on social media platforms, and have assured us that it is unrelated to our local area and has been found to be non-credible.
While the post does not reference any specific school or district, please be assured that each and every report of this nature is always and will continue to be fully investigated to ensure the safety of our entire school community.
I ask for your continued partnership in ensuring that all of our children fully understand the seriousness and consequences of making such statements, especially when sharing them through social media platforms, as such statements being made as a joke or prank will not serve as justification or protection from substantial disciplinary and legal consequences. This also remains true for any student who intentionally pulls a fire alarm in a non-emergency situation.
Please note that social media platforms are also now forwarding such posts and statements directly to law enforcement as well.
I would like to thank our students and parents who forwarded this information to our administration and security, and I encourage anyone who has any such information in the future to continue to do so. Our District Security office is open 24/7 and can be reached at 631-345-6500.
I thank you all for your continued partnership and ongoing collaboration as we continue to work together to ensure the safety of our schools.
