Third Grade Goals

Third Grade Reading and Writing

Through balanced literacy, students in third grade are taught to use and practice skills in both reading and writing. In reading, students work within a workshop format to develop strategies to increase comprehension, fluency, decoding, vocabulary development and motivation. In writing, the focus is to teach writing as a process. This process includes, brainstorming ideas in Writer’s Notebook, drafting, revising, editing, conferencing and publishing. Students are able to accomplish this through the use of various leveled resource books and age-appropriate reading texts.
