Literacy
Day
Program

Longwood School District will host its 2nd Annual Literacy Day on Saturday, April 28, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Longwood Middle School.

The Longwood community is invited and encouraged to participate in this kindergarten through 12th-grade event.

The day’s activities will now feature our first Community Book Talk, previously listed on the calendar for January 21. It will provide readers with an opportunity to discuss Greg Mortenson’s Three Cups of Tea. A young adult version of Three Cups of Tea and a picture book entitled, Listen to the Wind, make it possible for all ages to enjoy this story and join in age-appropriate activities and discussions in April. The books are being read in many classrooms and copies are available from the public library.

We hope to build on the overwhelming response to our first Literacy Day last spring, with literacy showcases, visiting authors, writing workshops, hands-on activities, a planetarium show, poetry slams and other activities for all grade levels. The event will also provide an opportunity to highlight the work of our student and staff authors, as well as to participate in author readings and autograph signings.
