New Assistant Principal Appointed at Longwood High SchoolThe Longwood Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Kapfer as the new assistant principal at Longwood High School, effective October 28, 2019. Mr. Kapfer replaces Sam Ahmed who was appointed the district's Director of Special Programs and Data Reporting.

With close to 20 years of experience in education, Mr. Kapfer joins Longwood from Kings Collegiate Charter School in Brooklyn, where he served as the Assistant Dean of Students, Math Team Instructional Leader, and Special Education Coordinator.  In that capacity, he observed and supported classroom teachers, assisted in student discipline, and served as an instructional leader in mathematics, algebra, and special education.  Prior to his position at Kings School, he worked as a teacher at Albany Preparatory Charter School in Albany.  He currently serves as an adjunct professor at Relay Graduate School of Education in New York.

“I’m honored to become part of the team at Longwood High School,” said Mr. Kapfer.  “I have met many members of the school community over this past week, and it is clear how passionate this community is about supporting one another to provide a positive, well-rounded educational experience for our students.”

Mr. Kapfer received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, and Probability from the University at Albany, and earned his School Building and School District Leadership and Certification in Educational Leadership from Stony Brook University.

“Mr. Kapfer comes to Longwood with extensive administrative experience and we’re confident that he will work closely with the high school administrative team to ensure that our students continue to receive the personalized, rigorous education that our community expects,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael R. Lonergan.  “We look forward to working with him in his new role and wish him much success here at Longwood.”
