High School Student Creates New Logo for Yaphank Fire DepartmentMario Braxton Jr., a senior at Longwood High School, recently paid a visit to the Yaphank Fire Department for the unveiling of his logo, now a permanent part of the department’s newest fire truck.

Under the guidance of art teacher Claire Hall, twenty students submitted potential designs to the Yaphank Fire Chief, with Mario’s “Pride, Spirit, Heart” logo chosen. Mario’s design is based on Longwood’s mascot and slogan.

“I chose the lion because the Yaphank Fire Department is in the Longwood School District, and there is a powerful meaning behind the word, lion,” said Mario. “A lion symbolizes courage, power, and strength, much like our local firefighters. The words Pride, Spirit, Heart represent our school slogan, and that is what the firefighters represent in our community.”

After graduation in June 2020, Mario plans to study graphic design in college.
