Trimester Information for Third Grade
 

LANGUAGE ARTS GOALS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Follow capitalization and punctuation standards

  • Apply grammar and usage standards to written and oral expression

  • Write creatively and clearly

  • Increase vocabulary

  • Improve spelling

  • Use writing process to improve writing product

READING GOALS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Locate main ideas

  • Recall supporting details

  • Draw conclusions based on content

  • Establish cause and effect

  • Consider author’s purpose

  • Distinguish among fact, fantasy and opinion

  • Practice using cloze format for responding to questions

  • Summarize reading selections

  • Strengthen comprehension skills, including previewing and asking questions

  • Read for enjoyment

MATHEMATICS GOALS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Use problem-solving strategies

  • Use critical thinking and logical reasoning

  • Distinguish between even and odd numbers

  • Round to nearest 10

  • Estimate numbers of increasing value

  • Multiply facts of increasing digits, multiplicands and multipliers

  • Divide facts of increasing value

  • Solve problems by using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

  • Gather and analyze data from tables, bar graphs and modes

  • Predict outcomes, assess events for randomness or chance (probability)

  • Use metric and U.S. measurement to measure length, mass and capacity
