Trimester Information for Second Grade

 

LANGUAGE ARTS GOALS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Capitalize

  • Punctuate

  • Write creatively

  • Use standard grammar and sentence structure

  • Practice penmanship according to the standard used in class

  • Spell vocabulary as assigned by the teacher

  • Practice dictionary skills

READING GOALS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Isolate main idea

  • Predict outcomes

  • State main idea and supporting details

  • Infer main idea from at least two sentences

  • Sequence events with signal words

  • Recall ideas from cues/context

  • Respond to signal word clues

  • Isolate and name consonants in any location in a word

  • Use vocabulary

MATHEMATICS GOALS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Read, write, identify and count cardinal numbers and ordinal numbers to increasing Levels

  • Add facts

  • Subtract facts

  • Group and regroup in addition and subtraction

  • Explore multiplication

  • Explore nature and use of fractions

  • Weight, size, width, depth and other properties requiring measurement
