Trimester Information for Fourth Grade
 

LANGUAGE ARTS GOALS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Increase self-correction for capitalization and punctuation

  • Write creatively

  • Use increasingly complex grammar and sentence structure

  • Write letters

  • Increase vocabulary

  • Improve spelling

  • Explore and write poetry

  • Isolate main ideas from increasingly complex selections

  • Summarize selections

  • Demonstrate comprehension

  • Use context clues to predict outcomes

  • Use vocabulary

  • Explore cause and effect in plot and character development

  • Read novels and non-fiction

  • Engage in silent reading

  • Determine sequence in complex and simple selections

MATHEMATICS GOALS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Round and estimate numbers of increasing value

  • Use zeroes in a quotient

  • Multiply facts of increasing digits

  • Divide facts with increasing digits

  • Use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve word problems

  • Use fractions for:
    --Simple prime factoring
    --Reducing to the lowest terms
    --Addition and subtraction
    --Multiplication

  • Convert fractions to decimals

  • Read and write decimal notations

  • Gather, organize and analyze data

  • Graph outcomes using bar and line graphs, circle graphs and pictographs
